Surrogacy. Homeschool.
One of the things I love about this podcast are the unique people that I get to meet and interview on the show. The purpose of this podcast is to share these stories.
Michelle’s story is one of these.
Michelle Whitaker is a 29 year old wife, YouTube content creator and homeschool mom of 1. Michelle is married to her wife of 8 years and they have a 7 year old daughter. Michelle’s YouTube channel documents her family’s true homeschooling journey and her raw and transparent road to becoming a surrogate mother.
In this episode of the podcast, Michelle shares with me:
Why they chose to take their daughter out of school and homeschool.
Why it was important to find a homeschool coop that was diverse, accepting and supportive.
Her Surrogacy journey
- why she chose to become a surrogate mom
- the process and the challenges that it involves,
- how they communicate this to their daughter.
What I took away from this interview is how each family’s story is unique to them but at the same time we are all so similar. As for the homeschool journey, we learn to make it our own. For example, I am an unschooling parent and Michelle an eclectic homeschooler. Our home education may look different, but I still learn from her example. As Michelle says, “There are so many different homeschool choices and styles today as well as backgrounds. Doing what works for you is all the matters. We just focus on us.”
I asked Michelle what advice she would offer to parents. Michelle suggests that whether you decide to homeschool or not, it’s important to get involved. Learn about what is happening in your schools. Attend the board Meetings. Raise your voice.
Then do what works for you.
